Public Hearing: Consideration for Non-Quota Limitations (NQLs) for Polar Bears in the NMR and EMR

NOTICE – ᑐᓴᕐᑕᐅᑎᑦᓯᒍᑏᑦ

Notice is herein provided on September 17, 2024 that the Nunavik Marine Region Wildlife Board (NMRWB) and Eeyou Marine Region Wildlife Board (EMRWB) are holding in-person hearings on the issue of the need for the establishment of Non-Quota Limitations (NQL) for polar bears in the Nunavik Marine Region (NMR) and the Eeyou Marine Region (EMR) including the  Cree / Inuit Offshore Overlapping Interests Area.  

The hearing will be split into two phases to facilitate effective and meaningful participation.

PHASE 1: NMRWB

With participation of Nunavik communities inside of the NMR (ie. excluding Joint zone, Inuit Zone, Cree Zone) and relevant parties. 

Date: November 5-8, 2024.             Location: Montreal, Quebec 

Information Request:
– Request can be made for official party status by October 11 at 5pm.
– Parties can provide additional documented information for hearing registry.

Deadline for submissions – Phase 1: October 25, 2024 at 5:00pm

PHASE 2: NMRWB/EMRWB Joint 

This will include all the communities in the overlap area. The 7th will be reserved for the parties from the Cree Zone 

Date: February 4-7, 2025.                Location: Kuujjuaraapik, Quebec 

Information Request – Phase 2:
– Request can be made for official party status by January 10 at 5pm.
– Parties can provide additional documented information for hearing registry.

Deadline for submissions – Phase 2: January 24, 2025 at 5:00pm
